Project Orion
Imagine a rocketship that is propelled using Hydrogen Bombs. Well, Freeman Dyson actually did work on one...Project Orion. Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle used one in their fantastic book, Footfall. This is a TED Talk from George Dyson (Freeman's son) that gives an update on the status of the Orion Project.
