New Whale Species Discovered
Fossil evidence of hyper-carnivorous whale has been found in Peru. This cousin of the modern Sperm Whale puts all of the other whales to run for deep water. Its name, Leviathan melvillei is a tip of the hat to the author of Moby Dick.

Nexus of D&D and Badass
Mike Krahulik (Gabe from Penny Arcade fame) just posted pictures of some of the coolest D&D terrain ever constructed. He ran a game in the Elemental Plane of Chaos. A place called Moteswarm. When I saw the pics I nearly had a nerdgasm. Check out the link below for some D&D glee. I may have to try and construct some of these motes just to experience combat in more than one plane of reference.

Foodstuffs From Long Ago
I'm not talking about that fungus filled rubbermaid bowl in the back of the fridge.
Don't Taze My Granny
Police in El Reno Oklahoma are accused of tazering an 86 year old, bedridden woman. Called to the home by her grandson, police confronted the woman in her hospital bed because she refused to take her medication. She apparently "took an aggressive posture," while still lying in bed, and was shot with a tazer gun. Fortunately, the gun malfunctioned and she was not shocked...until they tried again. That one worked and they shocked the denture cream out of her. Oh, did I mention that before zapping her they stepped on he O2 line to try and make her pass out from oxygen deprivation.

Forgotten Music: Mr. Big
Smack dab in the middle of the Hair Metal heyday (1989) the band, Mr Big, came out of nowhere to prove that some rockers could still play instruments, not just wield blow-dryers. Their first release, the self titled Mr. Big, demonstrated a mature set of musical chops much more polished than the average band stalking the flourishing metal scene. Their style of music, called shredding by some, emphasized technical aptitude and quick tempos. Mr. Big fit this mold perfectly while lead singer Eric Martin also brought a bluesy edge to the table. In my opinion the two best songs on the disk are Addicted to that Rush and Wind Me Up. Both frenetic and fun. The songs rarely falter on execution, but some are more memorable than others. The album wraps up with a worthy cover of the Humble Pie classic 30 Days in the Hole.
