R.I.P. Starlog Ceases Its Print Version

One more dent was put into the memory of my youth when it was announced that the venerable sci-fi movie magazine Starlog would cease its print version and switch to online only. I have very fond memories of studying my issues of Starlog as a kid, my head filling with the joy of movie magic. Wow, I haven't picked up a copy in 20 years, so I suppose that it is partially my fault.

Dave Arneson, R.I.P.

Gaming has suffered the loss of another of its patron saints. On April 7th, Dave Arneson, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, passed away after suffering from ill health for several years. He suffered a stroke in 2002 and was soon after diagnosed with cancer. He finally lost his battle with cancer, surrounded by his family in St. Paul, Minnesota. Gamers everywhere owe him a certain debt of gratitude for his work. He will be sorely missed.

Justice!

One of the Perils of Being a Technical Writer

Ant Slavery

Apparently Humans are not the only species to practice slavery. There is a species of North American ant that abducts larvae of other species and enslaves them. As with Humans, they face the perils of slave rebellions. There has to be a science fiction story in there somewhere.
